2000 Trees Festival 2017: Top Picks

Carrie Humphries

Triangle

The amazing 2000 Trees Festival returns to Upcote Farm near Cheltenham from 6th – 8th July, with a killer lineup to boot. Here are my top picks from this year’s lineup.

Pulled Apart By Horses
The Axiom – Thursday

Leeds band Pulled Apart By Horses are well renowned for their exciting and frantic live performances, which can result in injuries. Veterans to the festival, their fourth album The Haze was released in March, which is an stoner-rock inspired masterpiece just waiting to be heard.

Black Foxxes
The Forest Sessions – Thursday

Black Foxxes had an amazing year in 2016 following the release of their debut album I’m Not Well, and look set to do the same in 2017. Currently writing their second album; the alternative rock band from Exeter are one of the finest bands in the UK music scene, and this will be a rare opportunity for fans to see the three-piece play a magical stripped back set.

Black Peaks
Main Stage – Friday

Progressive post-hardcore band Black Peaks have been waiting in the wings of the UK rock scene for a long time, but it’s finally starting to feel like their time to swoop in and show everyone else what they have been missing. Recently the hard working band from Brighton have been touring throughout Europe with the likes of Architects, Dillinger Escape Plan and System of a Down, and look set to stun with their main stage set at 2000 Trees.

Queen Kwong
The Cave – Friday

Detroit based musician Carré Callaway; otherwise known as Queen Kwong, is no stranger to the world of rock. Discovered by Trent Reznor when she was 17, Carré has established herself as one of the most original and innovative female rock artists around with her explosive punk rock shows that truly do embody the rock and roll spirit of old. Her volatile and rebellious set will definitely be something to behold at this year’s festival.

Vukovi
The Axiom – Friday

Vukovi means ‘wolves’ when translated from Serbian; and much like a powerful creature, this female-fronted pop rock band are set to be a dominant force in the world of rock. The quirky band from Scotland released their self-titled debut in March this year; which touches upon all manner of subjects including the impact of bullying, and have been winning over fans with their energetic and fun-filled shows ever since.

Greywind
The Neu Stage – Friday

Irish duo Greywind have had a crazy couple of years since they began the band in 2014. The brother and sister alternative rockers were discovered and gained industry interest within days of self recording their demo. They were then signed by Raw Power management within a matter of weeks, which has since seen them supporting the likes of Thrice and Moose Blood, playing festivals Europe-wide and releasing debut album Afterthoughts. Their emotional shows are dark, yet uplifting and will blow you away.

Spring King
Main Stage – Saturday

Another band who have had a crazy couple of years are Manchester’s Spring King. The post punk band signed to Island Records last year following somewhat of a breakthrough year for them in 2015, when they were hotly tipped to be the next big thing from the likes of Zane Lowe. Since then, the band have released their hugely successful debut album Tell Me If You Like To and supported the likes of Kaiser Chiefs on their Stay Together tour. If you like your indie a little bit quirky, scuzzy and nerdy then be sure to check out their high-spirited show on The Main Stage on Saturday.

Sløtface
The Axiom – Saturday

Fearless Norwegian punks Sløtface make their first appearance at 2000 Trees this year to give everyone a lesson in defiance. Drawing upon the riot grrrl movement of the 1990s, the four piece from Stavanger are well known for their pop-punk hooks and activist lyrics, and also have undeniably kick-ass live shows that may well catch you off guard.

Peaness
The Neu Stage – Saturday

Peaness are an all-female three piece from Chester who best describe their music as ‘Pea-pop’. They are signed to Alcopop! records and their latest EP, Are You Sure? is jam-packed full of ridiculously catchy coming of age tunes with hooks that will nestle snugly in your brain for several days. Their set on The Neu Stage on Saturday is bound to make everyone smile, as it looks set to offer the perfect slice of summery goodness.

Honeyblood
The Forest Sessions – Saturday

Fem-rock band Honeyblood are returning to this year’s 2000 Trees following a very successful set in 2015. The Glaswegian duo’s latest album Babes Never Die is a passionate garage rock offering about female resilience and empowerment; which will seem all the more powerful when stripped back to basics for their forest session.
