When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?
I started making songs in jibberish, while hiding in closets at the age of two. Since then I’ve constantly banged and strummed on all kinds of stuff, gradually becoming less shy. I tried to grow up and start studying some years ago, but the touring seemed to pull me back.
How would you describe your music?
Murky with some shimmer (possibly metallic brown lacquer), a taste of sweet & salty liquorice, hints of eloquence and in defiance of the ‘less is more’ dogma.
What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?
So far I’ve made two studio albums and two live ones, and toured my arse off.
If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?
I have this burning wish to lure Lewis Taylor out of hiding, but asking him will just make him grumpy I suspect. He’ll have to come to me. Plus I’ve written a tune with Jill Scott in mind.
What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?
Innervisions by Stevie Wonder. It’ll make stuff grow.
