With Cambridge’s 50th anniversary just a few short weeks away, we provide our top picks for the main event of the folk lovers calendar.

With this being the 50th anniversary year, it was inevitable we’d be seeing some faces from festivals gone by. Personally I’m glad that includes Loudon Wainwright, even if that face will inevitably be contorted into some pretty weird expressions as the set progresses.
A bone-fide supergroup comprising Fay Hield, Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr, Sam Sweeney, Rob Habron and Ben Nicholls, the award winning Full English make one of only a few festival appearances at Cambridge this year.
Performing as part of Cambridge’s partnership with Creative Scotland, Eddi Reader promises to bring a set packed with as much personality as her stunning vocals.
Bluegrass’s young prodigy, Sarah Jarosz has already released three critically acclaimed studio albums at the tender age of just 23. An accomplished banjo, mandolin and guitar player, you’d be well advised to catch either or both of her Saturday and Sunday slots.
No stranger to the stages at Cambridge, the only surprise is that she’s not been given a bigger slot this year. Previous performances have seen her cause tents to overflow and this year is likely to be no exception with a Sunday outing at The Den.
Support for O’Hooley & Tidow has been gathering momentum of late, and justifiably so. Their latest album The Hum has seen the duo garner significant praise for their heartfelt numbers, which are bound to be one of the absolute highlights of this years festival.
Creating the kind of live furore that you just can’t fully replicate on a recording, Moulettes will be well worth checking in to with a drink in hand. Conveniently they play a well appointed Saturday slot.
Master dobro and harmonica player Phillip Henry and multi-instrumentalist Hannah Martin play Stage 2 on Thursday as part of a jam packed summer festival schedule. The duo’s richly layered folk arrangements will provide an excellent introduction the weekend’s anniversary celebrations.
