The iconic inner-city festival and brainchild of Groove Armada celebrates 10 years of love this year. Victoria Park in London’s East End will play host to Lovebox festival’s birthday celebrations.
The non-camping, urban festival takes place from June 15 to 17. Its location makes it a handy festival experience without the muck. However for those outside Greater London it’s probably a bit of an expensive weekend. Even if you do get a bed to sleep in rather than a sleeping bag.
The festival has grown in its 10 short years, and now pulls together a mixture of top headliners and new acts. Headlining the anniversary bill this year are Hot Chip, Friendly Fires and the iconic Grace Jones. Up and coming artists joining them include Emeli Sande, Lana Del Rey, Azealia Banks and Niki & The Dove. The whole bill consists of top dance acts, rap and r’n’b sensations, DJs and proper indie acts. No Kasabian, Stone Roses or equally as swagger-tastic new scamps in sight.
It’s come a long way from the one-day celebration on Clapham Common in 2003. The roots of Lovebox lie within the clubs, studios, galleries and public spaces of East London. This year the festival builds on this, boasting the best beats, breaks and riffs across 10 stages, gay discos, all-night parties, Dalston Superstar Live, carnivals and much more. And with tickets starting from £30 per day, and under £100 for the weekend, taking part in the birthday celebrations is an absolute bargain.
Tickets are available from the website (www.lovebox.net), HMV website (www.hmv.co.uk) or selected HMV stores. VIP packages are also still available.
