Described on their Twitter profile as “Oxford’s very own Americana band”, ToLiesel are an indie pop outfit with hints of shoegaze, formed in 2007. Speaking of their influences, lead singer Jack Olchawski describes their sound as “a happy middle ground between the direct songs of Death Cab For Cutie and Band Of Horses, and the more sonically outlandish, such as Deerhunter”.
ToLiesel are inspired by great songwriting, whether it be in the lyrics or the arrangement of a track. Their new single The Light features greatness in both respects, with its soaring, sun-dappled melodies and bittersweet melancholy lyrics: “In a cave I’ll learn to fly, and I’ll never see the light again”.
Recent support slots have included The Twilight Sad and Ellen and the Escapades, as well as the Oxford-based Message To Bears and Spring Offensive. They have also performed at this year’s Truck Festival.
ToLiesel’s debut single, The Light is available now as a free download, along with a remix from Message To Bears. They also have upcoming gigs in Oxford and London, and were recently included in this year’s Oxjam Oxford Takeover on the 13th October.
