21 year old acoustic songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich has burst onto this year’s music scene following a word of mouth buzz that has evolved into substantial mainstream coverage. Benjamin’s first two EPs gained critical acclaim which led to his single Pictures gaining serious airtime on major radio stations. Following the success of his early songs, Benjamin is set to release his official debut single Box Of Stones, on June 5th, which has been playlisted on Radio 1 and has gained the support of DJs such as Zane Lowe, who chose Benjamin to support Fleet Foxes in session.

Ringing with haunting melodies and sweetly soft words this music can actually stun you into silence of appreciation. The single acoustic guitar is reminiscent of a music box, its metre so perfectly in time, you don’t have to be a musician to appreciate a great heart-warming sense through such intricate simplicity. His voice has echoing undertones cementing meaning in every word that is sung, the backing contains some tasteful effects in places accompanying the sparse acoustic texture in the form of elusive piano notes, subtle drum rolls and sustained backing vocals.

I first encountered Benjamin Francis Leftwich as a support artist for Lisa Mitchell back in March. At the time I was far more excited for the other support act and Lisa herself, so I guess I didn’t give his set my complete attention. Six months later and he’s back on my radar with the release of A Million Miles Out.
