09/12/2011 | The Drums – Shepherds Bush Empire, London   First impressions of this high profile live offering from The Drums is the disappointing tone of pretension heavily present in the air. The Drums are perhaps known for their slightly foppish hipster audience (yours truly included), but the sheer proliferation of posers, taking innumerate photos of themselves and not actually engaging with the music is somewhat disparaging. It is especially disappointing because the band do a good set. Awaiting image The Drums remind me of an 80’s electric pop band with their chilled out tones and retro fashion sense.  Fronted by lead singer Jonathan Pierce, the Brooklyn born band formed in 2008 and quickly found their way into the music industry. Being one of 15 acts shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2010 accolade lead to a number of appearances for the band including the NME Awards Tour and various gigs around the UK.
