
Tonight draws in an unexpected older crowd than the academy usually boasts. Thankfully not all of them as cantankerous as the guy I inadvertently land myself next to. Yet despite this, as the lights drop and The Pierces atmospheric intro kicks in there’s a cheer that’s as youthful as any other evening. The sisters’ influences seem to litter the set, opener Kissing You Goodbye filled with a Beach Boys meets Abba vibe and Close My Eyes bringing a shade of Kate Bush which doesn’t ring out on the recorded version.

Following this week’s release of You and I, we caught up with The Pierces to learn more about them and their new album.
MTTM: What initially inspired you to form a band?
The Pierces: We’ve been singing together since we were little girls and our Father has always been in bands, so I suppose he was the inspiration.
MTTM: What level of “culture shock” did you experience moving from Alabama to London?
The Pierces: Well, we’ve been living in NYC for the past nine years so that softened the blow! We did experience some amount of culture shock when we left Alabama...

Monday 30th May saw the fourth studio effort from sisters, The Pierces, with the release of You & I. Alabama born, Catherine and Allison Pierce have eluded mainstream music in The UK despite having 3 album released prior to this – however, significant radio airplay has changed all that, and not only are more people in the know, they are sitting up and paying attention.
