When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?

When I was about six years old, I thought somebody painted all of the roadsigns for motorway services and visitor attractions by hand. I decided that I wanted to the person to paint all of the knives and forks but, ultimately, it was too wild a dream so I started playing the recorder at school instead.

How would you describe your music?

More Frank Grimes than Grimes.

What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?

I’ve just released my second album ‘Gilded Cage’ this month, which is available everywhere online and has a lot of horror soundtrack influences, like manipulated vocals, choral elements and warped synths. I’m also currently working on an EP and third album on the Isle of Wight, where I live.

If you could duet with anybody who would it be and why?

Angus Andrew of Liars has a very distinctive sound which is like nothing else I’ve heard. I also read that he samples himself when making a record and absorbs the surroundings of wherever he is to the point where it’s intertwined in the songs. I can fully get behind that.

What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?

I’d take Tim Hecker’s ‘Ravedeath, 1972’ because it’s the perfect soundtrack to an open expanse of ocean and it uses sounds from across several of my favourite genres, which is no mean feat.
