When did you begin making music, and did you ever ponder a different career?
I started learning guitar around the age of 15, and began songwriting around the same time. When I was younger I wanted to be a palaeontologist, then a vet, then a dentist, then a teacher… music was always something I love but I didn’t realise it could be a career path for me until I started touring during my University studies. I then started filming videos of me singing and uploaded them to YouTube and the response was incredible! I started to get positive comments from people all around the world listening to my music and discovered fans in countries that I had never even been to.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe it as alt-pop… guitar-driven pop for sure, but with a dark edge, and indie influences too. I listen to so many different genres so the music I make is a mix of a lot of different genres, but I always write ‘pop’ songs I think. I started off just writing acoustic folky music, but with the addition of synths and heavy drums, it’s a much more developed sound now.
What have you been up to so far and what can we expect over the coming months?
I have just released my new single ‘Another Beautiful Mistake’ and am currently running a pledge project in order to make a music video for this – starting work on it very soon! I have been on a couple of amazing European tours so far this year – with Jeremy Loops and Walk Off The Earth – performing to over 5000 at London’s Brixton o2 Academy was definitely a highlight of my 2016 (and my musical journey) so far! In the next few months I will be releasing new music videos, new singles, announcing new live dates… keep a look out on my YouTube channel to follow all that’s going on!
If you could duet with anybody who would be and why?
It would be so cool to work on a tune with Skrillex, I love adding elements of electronica into my music, and I’d love to experiment even more with organic sounds and EDM, collaborating with him would be epic.
What’s your desert island disc and why would you take this one album?
I would take Adele’s latest album ’25’ it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and has something for every mood I could possibly find myself in… that album would probably help me to keep feeling human if I was stranded somewhere for a while ‘Castaway’ style!
