A band you will be hearing a lot of in 2013 are indie scamps Dexters. The boys formed in 2011 in east London after having grown up together, and they haven’t really stopped since.
Tom Rowlett (vocals), Chris Heggie (guitar, backing vocals), Ben Debo (lead guitar, backing vocals), Vincent Dignan (bass, backing vocals) and Chris Mardon (drums) have made little ripples on the indie rock/pop scene in 2012. Thus far, the group have toured with The Enemy, and they have also supported The View and Glasvegas, and they even hosted their own Club NME night at Koko in Camden.
Their debut single ‘Recover’ was first released as a free download in November, and is reminiscent of early Strokes, a band which Dexters are clearly heavily influenced by. Other influences include The Jam, The Clash, The Specials and The La’s, all of which merge together to create the impossible-to-ignore Dexters sound. Critics and audiences clearly agree – ‘Recover’ has also been playlisted on XFM.
December saw the band sell out their own headline show at London’s Queen of Hoxton, and open for the Happy Mondays at their London Roundhouse shows. Appearing on various “ones to watch” lists for 2013, we can expect much more from Dexters in the next 12 months, including their debut album which the boys are currently working on.
