The Apple Cart Festival will be arriving on the festival circuit with a bang this year. The gates haven’t even opened yet and I for one have been excited for months.
Fusing music, comedy, art and magic together, the festival really is one of a kind; It eliminates the need to go to any other festivals. There’s Patrick Wolf and Badly Drawn Boy flying the musical flag – although that’s not to say that the Communion artists on the Folk Stage should be overlooked – whilst my personal favourite, Tim Minchin, will be offering the finest musical comedy feast you’ve ever seen. Guaranteed.
Also on the musical bill are Soul II Soul, Magic Numbers and the up-and-coming Sunday Girl. Jon Richardson, Marcus Brigstocke and Doc Brown will all be rivaling the musicians for your attention with sets on the comedy stage.
The Art Car Boot Fair is sure to please those wanting more than your average festival experience, whilst Literary Death Match will be hosting a special event at the festival to inject even more culture. If you’re struggling to imagine how this will all come together, then simply think of Latitude in the middle of London, with all the best bits condensed into one day. That, my friend, is Apple Cart Festival.
All of that, plus a magic stage, stuff to entertain the kids and a food fair that looks set to put standard festival cuisine to shame.
Did I mention this is a one day event? Yes, all of this is happening in just 11 hours. Which could be the festival’s one downfall. Just how are we meant to take in the best of the music, comedy, art and magic offerings in just one day? I don’t know, but I guess I’ll have to find out myself…
The Apple Cart Festival takes place in Victoria Park on Sunday 7 August. Tickets cost £29.95 plus a booking fee.
